Day 6
The beginning of the end. We have 1 more day left of cramming to get all the squares of the big board filled in. It’s starting to look like a pretty one-sided game of Tic-Tac-Toe (or Hollywood Squares for the less analogy crowd). Gordon Withers dropped by last night and knocked out the Whoopie Goldberg spot (or the Jim J. Bullock spot for the even-more sassy crowd). The cello additions could not be more achingly beautiful. Can’t wait to hear Gordon’s album of Pauses tribute songs in 10-20 years. As of Day 5, the hours have started to blend and blur into a disorienting haze of instruments and vocals. Yesterday was a labyrinth of guitar and bass and cello and vocals and feedback recording. Today was no different with 2 final Guitar tracks, Stomps, Claps, Keyboards, Bells, Vibraphone, and the Rhodes finally dusted off for a number of patiently waiting tracks, that apparently will have to wait even longer since we now have to rent a rhodes that doesn’t have a missing tine. At least we lugged it all the way to Baltimore before it decided to fall apart on us. Maybe we’ll see you on the next album Florida-Rhodes. Tomorrow is guaranteed to be action-packed with visits from Janet Morgan on the BG Vox and Ron the Trumpet player who will be giving Go North a much deserved working over. We will also be studio hopping to Right Way studios to track Big Ol’ Grand Piano type sounds for Little Kids, Hands Up, and Beyond Bianca. Whew, I’m tired just typing it all. Stayed tuned for the thrilling conclusion. Same blog time, same blog channel.
